Brayton is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, situated approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) south of Selby. The parish, which includes parts of south-western Selby, experienced a population decrease from 5,514 in 2001 to 5,299 at the time of the 2011 Census.
Historically, Brayton was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until April 1, 1974. It was later administered as part of the Selby District until 2023, when it came under the administration of the unitary North Yorkshire Council. The name of the village is of historical linguistic interest, deriving either from the Old Norse word breiðr (meaning 'broad') or the personal name Breithi, combined with the Old English tūn, meaning 'settlement'.
