Charles Eliot Norton (1827–1908) was a prominent American author, social critic, and academic who left a significant mark on the cultural landscape of New England. Serving as a professor of art at Harvard University, Norton was widely recognized by his contemporaries as one of the most cultivated individuals in the United States. His intellectual pursuits were closely aligned with his active engagement in the social and political issues of his era.

He belonged to the prominent Eliot family, a lineage that also produced the celebrated twentieth-century poet T. S. Eliot.
