Sir Lenworth George Henry, known professionally as Lenny Henry, is a highly influential British comedian, actor, presenter, and writer. Rising to prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s as a stand-up comedian and impressionist, Henry became one of the most visible Black British entertainers of his era. His early career was marked by regular appearances on the children's entertainment show Tiswas and the sketch comedy series Three of a Kind. Much of his early comedic material celebrated and parodied his African-Caribbean heritage, breaking new ground in British broadcasting.

In 1984, he launched The Lenny Henry Show, a highly successful program that transitioned between sketch comedy and sitcom formats over its two-decade run. Henry further solidified his television presence by starring in the popular sitcom Chef! and hosting various programs. Beyond his work in entertainment, Henry co-founded the major British charity Comic Relief in 1985 alongside comedy screenwriter Richard Curtis, establishing a lasting legacy of philanthropic work.

In more recent decades, Henry has transitioned toward serious dramatic acting on both stage and screen, including a role in the high-profile fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. In addition to his creative pursuits, he served as the chancellor of Birmingham City University for eight years before announcing his retirement from the post in 2024. Throughout his career, Henry has been recognized as a pioneering figure in British television and comedy.
