Charlotte Blair Parker, widely known by her pen name Lottie Blair Parker, was an American playwright and actress who achieved significant success during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born in 1858, she initially pursued a career on the stage. As an actress, she gained valuable theatrical experience performing alongside some of the most prominent actors and theater managers of the era, including John Edward McCullough, Mary Anderson, and Dion Boucicault.
Transitioning from acting to writing, Parker authored approximately a dozen produced plays over her career. Her work resonated with contemporary audiences, particularly through three major stage plays produced between 1897 and 1906: Way Down East, Under Southern Skies, and The Redemption of David Corson. These works solidified her reputation as a capable dramatist of her generation.
Of her theatrical catalog, the 1898 play Way Down East was by far her most successful endeavor. It became one of the most popular and enduring American plays of its time, remaining in steady production for two decades. Parker's contributions to American popular theater continued to be recognized until her death on January 5, 1937.
