Howard Pease (1894–1974) was an American author from Stockton, California, who specialized in writing adventure stories. His literary work is best known for its maritime settings and focus on seafaring journeys.
Most of Pease's stories revolved around a young protagonist named Joseph Todhunter, also known as 'Tod' Moran. These narratives followed Moran as he shipped out on tramp freighters, capturing the unique atmosphere of the interwar years.
