Eleanor Emily Hodgman Porter (1868–1920) was an American novelist whose literary career achieved significant commercial success during the early twentieth century. Born in December 1868, she dedicated herself to writing fiction, eventually producing works that resonated deeply with a broad reading public. Porter is best known as the creator of the Pollyanna series of books, which began with the publication of Pollyanna in 1913. The debut novel became an immediate and widespread popular phenomenon, capturing the public's imagination. Through this series, Porter established a lasting legacy in American popular literature before her death in May 1920.
