Melvin Lane Powers was an American businessman who became a central figure in a highly publicized mid-20th-century murder trial. He was accused of involvement in the killing of his uncle by marriage, Jacques Mossler, the husband of his maternal aunt, Candy Mossler.
During the trial, prosecutors argued that Powers and his aunt were romantic partners who conspired to commit the murder to secure Jacques Mossler's fortune. However, defense attorney Percy Foreman successfully convinced the jury to disregard the evidence presented by the prosecution. Both Powers and his aunt were acquitted of the charges, and no other suspects were ever charged with the crime.
