Theodore Pratt was an American novelist and journalist whose literary career was deeply defined by his adopted home of Florida. Born in Minnesota in 1901, Pratt initially pursued his education and early career in New York, where he established himself as a reporter and wrote regular columns. After a period of living and traveling in Europe, he returned to the United States and settled in Florida, embarking on a prolific writing career that would span several decades. Pratt became a dedicated chronicler of Florida's diverse landscapes and culture, traveling extensively throughout the state to gather material for his writing. He authored more than thirty novels, the vast majority of which were set against the backdrop of Florida's unique environment. His vivid regional storytelling captured the attention of Hollywood, resulting in five of his literary works being adapted into feature films. Pratt continued to write and explore the region until his death in 1969.
