Elizabeth Payson Prentiss (1818–1878) was an American author and hymnwriter whose work left a lasting impact on nineteenth-century religious literature. Born in the early nineteenth century, she developed a writing career centered on spiritual themes, devotion, and Christian faith.

She is best remembered for her 1869 religious novel, Stepping Heavenward, which gained wide acclaim, alongside her well-known hymn, "More Love to Thee, O Christ."
