Edna Ann Proulx, who writes under the names Annie Proulx, E. Annie Proulx, and E. A. Proulx, is an acclaimed American novelist, short story writer, and journalist. Born on August 22, 1935, she has established herself as a major voice in contemporary American fiction, known for her distinct prose style and deep exploration of regional landscapes and human struggles.

Proulx's literary career achieved rapid critical success with her debut novel, Postcards (1992). The work earned her the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction, making her the first woman to receive the prestigious prize. Her second novel, The Shipping News (1993), further cemented her reputation as a master storyteller. The book won both the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the U.S. National Book Award for Fiction, and it was later adapted into a feature film in 2001.
