Janet Milne Rae, born Janet Milne Gibb on July 8, 1844, in Willowbank, Aberdeen, was a Scottish novelist and missionary. She is often known in literary records as Mrs. Milne Rae. Her life was marked by her travels and missionary work, which took her from her native Scotland to India, where she spent a significant portion of her life.\n\nIt was during her time living in India that Rae began her career as a writer of fiction. Her debut novel, Morag: A Tale of Highland Life, was published in 1872, establishing her presence in the late nineteenth-century literary landscape. This work drew upon her Scottish background, bridging her experiences abroad with her heritage. Rae continued her life of service and writing until her death on April 24, 1933, at the age of eighty-eight.
