Allen Raine was the pseudonym of Anne Adalisa Beynon Puddicombe, a highly successful Welsh novelist of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born in Newcastle Emlyn on October 6, 1836, she established a prominent writing career under her pen name, capturing a vast reading audience.
Although biographical details are sparse, her literary impact is clearly demonstrated by her immense commercial success. By 1912, four years after her death on June 21, 1908, her novels had achieved sales of more than two million copies, marking her as one of the most widely read Welsh authors of her generation.
