P. P. Raymond was an American agriculturalist and businessman who played a significant role in the local history of Malcom, Iowa. Arriving in Poweshiek County in 1856, Raymond initially established himself as a farmer, working the land outside of the town for nearly two decades. In 1874, he relocated into the town of Malcom, where he constructed a prominent residence that would later become a recognized historic landmark.\n\nBeyond his agricultural pursuits, Raymond was a key figure in the local financial sector. He founded P. P. Raymond and Sons, which served as Malcom's first and only bank. Raymond and his family resided in their distinctive Second Empire-style home until 1904, when the property was sold. The house itself, noted for its architectural features such as a mansard roof and a turret, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
