Henry Milner Rideout (1877–1927) was an American novelist, short story writer, and editor active during the early twentieth century. A native of Calais, Maine, Rideout built a substantial literary portfolio over the course of his career. His creative output was diverse and extensive, encompassing sixteen novels alongside twenty-three short stories and novellas. In addition to his fictional narratives, Rideout also authored a biographical memoir, demonstrating his capability in non-fiction prose.
In addition to his career as a creative writer, Rideout was active in the educational sector as an editor of academic texts. He was responsible for editing one college textbook individually and served as a co-editor for three additional textbook volumes. Rideout's shorter fiction found a broad public audience through popular periodicals of his era; a significant portion of his short stories and novellas were published in The Saturday Evening Post, one of the most widely circulated weekly magazines in the United States at the time.
