Alexander D. Robertson was a Canadian merchant, farmer, and politician active in Prince Edward Island during the late nineteenth century. Born in West River, East Point, Prince Edward Island, on March 5, 1849, Robertson was the son of James Robertson and Mary Jarvis, who were of Scottish descent. He received his early education within his home district before pursuing further studies in Charlottetown. In 1887, he married Bertha Lydia Fraser.\n\nRobertson's career in public service began in earnest in 1891. He entered provincial politics by running in a by-election for the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island, representing the constituency of 1st Kings. The by-election was triggered when the sitting member, John McLean, was elected to the House of Commons. Robertson successfully won the seat, serving as a member of the Liberal Party.\n\nDuring his tenure in the Legislative Assembly, which lasted from 1891 until 1897, Robertson balanced his political responsibilities with his local business interests as a farmer and merchant. His legislative career came to an end following his defeat in the 1897 provincial election. Robertson passed away on January 2, 1921, leaving behind a legacy of local civic and political involvement in Prince Edward Island.
