Kermit Roosevelt Sr. was an American writer, businessman, soldier, and explorer who lived from 1889 to 1943. The son of Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States, he pursued his education at Harvard College, graduating before embarking on a life defined by adventure, military service, and literary documentation. He is well-remembered for his close relationship with his father, with whom he traveled extensively, exploring two different continents and recording their experiences.
In addition to his achievements as an explorer and businessman, Roosevelt was a dedicated soldier who served in both World Wars, uniquely holding commissions in both the British Army and the United States Army. Despite his active public life and achievements, he struggled with a lifelong battle against depression. His life came to a tragic end in 1943, when he died by suicide while on active duty with the U.S. Army in Alaska during the Second World War.
