Bertha Runkle (1879–1958), who also went by her married name Bertha Runkle Bash, was an American novelist and playwright. Born in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, she was raised in a literary family, an environment that helped shape her future career as a writer. Over the course of her life, she authored a total of five novels.

She achieved her greatest literary success with her debut novel, The Helmet of Navarre. The book became her most famous work and was subsequently adapted into a Broadway play, cementing her legacy as both a successful novelist and a dramatist.
