Neil Stuppel Price is an English archaeologist and academic who specializes in the study of Viking Age Scandinavia and the archaeology of shamanism. Born in south-west London, Price began his academic journey by earning a BA in Archaeology from the University of London. He published his first book, The Vikings in Brittany, in 1989. He pursued doctoral research at the University of York from 1988 to 1992 before relocating to Sweden, where he completed his PhD at Uppsala University in 2002.\n\nThroughout his career, Price has contributed significantly to the archaeological understanding of pre-Christian Norse religion and ritual practices. In 2001, he edited the anthology The Archaeology of Shamanism. The following year, he published and defended his highly influential doctoral thesis, The Viking Way, which received critical acclaim from fellow archaeologists as a landmark study of the Viking Age.\n\nSince 2014, Price has served as a professor in the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History at Uppsala University. His contributions to the field were further recognized in 2017 when he was elected a Corresponding Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
