George Augustus Henry Fairfield Sala was an author and journalist who established a significant presence in nineteenth-century print media. Writing under the initials "G. A. S.," Sala contributed extensively to the Illustrated London News. However, he achieved his greatest professional fame through his regular articles and editorial leaders written for The Daily Telegraph. Beyond his contributions to established newspapers, Sala was an active entrepreneur in the literary and social spheres of his day. He founded his own periodical, Sala's Journal, though this venture ultimately proved unsuccessful. More enduringly, Sala founded the Savage Club, a social club that survived his death in 1895 and continues to operate today.
