Arthur L. Hammond (1896–1979) was an American evangelical missionary and translator who became the first evangelical missionary to establish a presence in Cambodia. After completing his theological training at Nyack College, Hammond journeyed to Southeast Asia in 1921 as a representative of the Christian & Missionary Alliance (CMA). He initially spent two years serving in Saigon, Vietnam, before relocating to begin his primary life's work. In January 1923, Hammond entered Cambodia alongside his wife, Esther. Recognizing the need for local-language scriptures, he began the monumental task of translating the Bible into Khmer in 1925. This linguistic endeavor spanned several decades; he completed the translation of the New Testament by 1934, but it was not until 1954 that the entire Khmer Bible (KOV) was finally published. Through his dedicated translation work, Hammond laid the foundational literary groundwork for the Khmer-speaking Protestant community.
