Sastre is primarily recognized for his role as a founder of the Salón Literario, an influential institution that he established alongside fellow writers Juan Bautista Alberdi, Juan María Gutiérrez, and Esteban Echeverría. This collaborative effort became a cornerstone of Argentine intellectual life.

The establishment of the Salón Literario is celebrated as the beginning of the Generation of '37. Through this movement, Sastre and his co-founders helped initiate a new era of literary and cultural development in Argentina.
