He initially served as a short-term defense lawyer for Erik Menendez in 1990. Shapiro's most prominent legal role came in 1994, when he became a member of the "Dream Team" of attorneys representing O. J. Simpson. This defense team successfully defended Simpson against charges of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman.
