Bertrand Leslie Shurtleff was an American author, educator, and athlete whose multi-faceted career spanned professional sports, public speaking, and writing. Born in August 1897, Shurtleff first established himself in the world of athletics. He played college football for Brown University before transitioning to the professional ranks as an offensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL). During his tenure in the NFL, he played for the Providence Steam Roller from 1925 to 1926 and later joined the Boston Bulldogs for the 1929 season.\n\nIn addition to his football career, Shurtleff worked as a professional wrestler, showcasing his athletic versatility. He later transitioned into academic and public life, working as a teacher and a public speaker. Drawing upon his diverse life experiences, Shurtleff also became an author, contributing to his varied professional legacy before his death in February 1967.
