Alexander Smith was a nineteenth-century Scottish poet and essayist. Born in late 1829, he became known as a key figure within the Spasmodic School, a contemporary literary group of the period.
Throughout his career, Smith worked in both verse and essay formats. He passed away in early 1867, leaving behind a body of work that remains associated with the distinct stylistic movements of his era.
