Cicely Fox Smith was an English poet and writer who gained recognition for her prolific literary output, particularly her verses focused on maritime themes. Born in Lymm, Cheshire, she received her education at the Manchester High School for Girls. She spent a brief period of her early life living in Canada before returning to the United Kingdom shortly before the onset of World War I. Upon her return, she chose to settle in Hampshire, where she dedicated herself to her writing career.\n\nOver the course of her life, Smith authored more than 600 poems, which were published across a diverse range of periodicals and publications. While she was most famous for her nautical poetry, she later expanded her creative endeavors to include a variety of other subjects, writing both fiction and non-fiction books. Her dedicated service to British literature was officially recognized by the British Government, which awarded her a small civil pension in her later years.
