David Nichol Smith (1875–1962) was a Scottish literary scholar who achieved prominence in the field of English academic studies during the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Smith is most notable for his tenure as the Merton Professor of English Literature at Oxford University, one of the most prestigious academic chairs in his field. In recognition of his contributions to humanities and literary scholarship, he was elected a Fellow of the British Academy (FBA).
