Logan Pearsall Smith (1865–1946) was an American-born British essayist and critic who became highly regarded for his intellectual contributions to English literature and language studies. Born in the United States, Smith pursued an elite academic path, receiving his education at both Harvard University and the University of Oxford. This dual transatlantic background informed his scholarly perspective, and he spent much of his life in Britain, dedicating himself to the study of literature, style, and language.

Smith was particularly celebrated for his mastery of brief, polished literary forms, earning a reputation for his clever aphorisms and epigrams. Beyond his shorter prose, he was recognized as an expert on seventeenth-century divines, showcasing a deep appreciation for historical religious literature. His analytical interest in linguistics led to the publication of Words and Idioms, a work that cemented his status as an authority on correct English language usage. In 1938, he published his autobiography, Unforgotten Years, which detailed his life and intellectual development.
