The American Tract Society (ATS) is a nonprofit, nonsectarian, and theologically conservative evangelical organization established on May 11, 1825, in New York City. Created to publish and disseminate Christian literature, the society traces its roots back to earlier regional groups, including the New York Tract Society (1812) and the New England Tract Society (1814), which themselves drew inspiration from the Religious Tract Society of London founded in 1799. Over its long history, the organization has produced and distributed hundreds of millions of religious pamphlets and tracts.\n\nOperating as a board-governed entity with an advisory Council of Reference composed of prominent evangelical figures, the society has historically funded its global operations through private donations and tract sales. This funding has supported evangelistic resource distribution across the United States as well as international start-up initiatives in regions such as Africa, Asia, India, South and Central America, Europe, and Australia.\n\nCurrently headquartered in Garland, Texas, the American Tract Society continues its mission of Christian literature distribution. In September 2012, the organization expanded its reach by entering into a joint publishing agreement with Good News Publishing, a division of Crossway, to facilitate the ongoing production of its evangelistic materials.
