Eric Spencer Macky (1880–1958) was a New Zealand-born American painter, printmaker, and educator who became a prominent figure in the Northern California art community. Active during the early to mid-twentieth century, Macky was highly regarded for his landscape paintings and his evocative depictions of San Francisco scenes. His artistic output also included work as an intaglio printmaker, showcasing his versatile technical skills.
In addition to his creative practice, Macky dedicated much of his career to art education and academic administration. He founded the short-lived Spencer Macky Art School in San Francisco, which operated from 1916 to 1917. He later took on major leadership roles in the region, most notably serving as the president of the California College of Arts and Crafts (now the California College of the Arts) from 1944 until 1954, where he left a lasting impact on the institution and its students.
