Caroline Abbot Stanley was an American author born on August 16, 1849. Over the course of her writing career, she became known for her historical fiction, particularly works that engaged with the dramatic events of the American Civil War.
Stanley's most prominent and well-received work was her 1904 novel, Order No. 11. The book, which drew upon the historical military decree of the same name, became a major regional bestseller and remains her most enduring contribution to American literature.
