Sir Richard Steele was an Anglo-Irish writer, playwright, and politician who lived from approximately 1671 until 1729. He is best known for his work in periodical literature, most notably co-founding the famous magazine The Spectator.
Steele established the publication alongside his close friend Joseph Addison. In addition to his contributions to journalism, Steele actively pursued careers in both politics and playwriting, making him a multi-faceted figure of his era.
