Thomas Stevens was an English-American adventurer who secured his place in history as the first person to circle the globe by bicycle. From April 1884 to December 1886, Stevens undertook his historic journey riding a large-wheeled Ordinary bicycle, which was also commonly known as a penny-farthing. His remarkable expedition spanned over two years, marking a groundbreaking achievement in the history of travel and long-distance cycling.
After completing his global bicycle journey, Stevens continued to lead an active and adventurous life. He later traveled to Africa to search for the famous explorer Henry Morton Stanley. In addition to this expedition, he investigated the claims of Indian ascetics and eventually transitioned into a career in the entertainment industry, serving as the manager of the Garrick Theatre in London.
