David James "Tiger" Williams is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who competed in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1974 to 1988. Over the course of his fourteen-year career in the league, Williams played for five different franchises. Although he possessed a good scoring touch, he was best known for his role as an enforcer on the ice.
Williams's physical style of play led him to become the NHL's all-time career leader in penalty minutes. Among his career highlights, he played in the 1981 NHL All-Star Game and reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 1982. Born in 1954, he was given his famous nickname, "Tiger," at the age of five by his minor hockey coach in Weyburn, Saskatchewan.
