Ian Holbourn was an author, academic, and laird of Foula, an island in Shetland. Born John Bernard Stoughton Holbourn, he lived from 1872 until 1935, pursuing a multi-faceted career that bridged higher education and administrative estate leadership.
Over the course of his life, Holbourn worked closely with the University of Oxford, where he served as a professor and lecturer. His written work and lectures drew from his academic background as well as his unique experiences overseeing his estate as the laird of Foula.
