Calvin Thomas was an American scholar and educator who specialized in Germanic languages and literature during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born near Lapeer, Michigan, in 1854, he went on to pursue a career in higher education.

Over the course of his professional life, Thomas served as a professor of Germanic languages and literature at both the University of Michigan and Columbia University. He remained active in his academic pursuits until his death in New York City in 1919.
