Frederick Fletcher Dalton Thompson (1942–2015) was an American attorney, politician, and actor who achieved prominence in both public service and the entertainment industry. A member of the Republican Party, Thompson served as a United States Senator representing Tennessee from 1994 to 2003. Beyond his senatorial career, he was an active figure in national security and foreign policy, chairing the International Security Advisory Board at the U.S. Department of State and serving on the U.S.–China Economic and Security Review Commission. He also ran as a candidate in the 2008 Republican presidential primaries.\n\nAlongside his political endeavors, Thompson maintained a highly visible career as an actor, often credited as Fred Dalton Thompson.
