Hilary F. French is an environmental analyst and author who has dedicated her career to international environmental policy and globalization. She serves as a Program Officer at the United Nations Environment Programme's (UNEP) Regional Office for North America. French completed her education at Dartmouth College and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, laying the academic groundwork for her subsequent research.\n\nPrior to her work with the United Nations, French spent many years at the Worldwatch Institute, which she joined in 1987. During her long tenure there, she served in multiple capacities, including Vice President for Research, Director of the Globalization and Governance Project, Senior Advisor for Programs, and Senior Researcher. Her early career also included internships with the United Nations Development Program and the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research, alongside brief work for Ashoka.\n\nFrench is best known as the author of Vanishing Borders: Protecting the Planet in the Age of Globalization (2000), a widely translated book addressing ecological preservation. In addition to this major work, she has authored numerous policy documents and research papers for the Worldwatch Institute, focusing on the intersection of global governance, trade, and environmental sustainability.
