Joseph Burr Tyrrell was a Canadian geologist and amateur historian. He is notably remembered in the historical community for establishing and endowing the J. B. Tyrrell Historical Medal in 1927.
Administered by the Royal Society of Canada, this gold-plated silver medal is awarded biennially to recognize outstanding contributions to the study of Canadian history.
