The religious organization currently known as InFaith has historical roots extending back to the late eighteenth century. The institution began its trajectory with the founding of the First Day Society in 1790, establishing an early foundation for organized religious instruction in the United States. In 1817, the organization officially took shape under the name 'Sunday and Adult School Union.' This marked the formalization of its efforts, which would continue to expand over the following decades. To better represent its growing scope, the group changed its name in 1824 to the American Sunday School Union (ASSU), a title under which it would operate for one hundred and fifty years. The latter half of the twentieth century brought further organizational shifts. In 1974, the ASSU transitioned to the name American Missionary Fellowship. This identity remained in place until September 1, 2011, when the organization officially rebranded as InFaith, carrying its centuries-old mission into the contemporary era.
