Blanche Sarah Upright (née Caro) was an American author active during the early decades of the twentieth century. Born on February 22, 1880, she established a career that bridged the worlds of literature, theater, and early cinema.
Upright is best known for her novel Valley of Content. The work achieved notable success, leading to its adaptation into the 1923 silent film Pleasure Mad. Following its cinematic release, the story was adapted for the stage in 1925. In addition to her writing career, Upright also ventured into acting, appearing in the 1927 film Your Wife and Mine.
In her personal and professional life, she was married to Louis Childs Upright. Together, they operated Caro & Upright, a fabric business based at 717 Market Street in San Francisco, which also maintained an office in Los Angeles. Upright passed away on April 3, 1948, leaving behind a legacy tied to early twentieth-century California culture and media.
