Bertha Stoneman was an American-born South African botanist and academic administrator who dedicated her career to higher education and the advancement of women in academia. Born in 1866, she established her professional life in South Africa, where she became a prominent figure in the university system.

Stoneman served as the president of Huguenot College from 1921 to 1933, leading the institution during the early twentieth century. Beyond her administrative and botanical work, she was deeply committed to supporting female academics, founding the South African Association of University Women to foster opportunities for women in higher education.
