Lydia Louisa Anna Very (1823–1901) was an American educator, writer, and illustrator. She is historically significant for authoring the very first shape books in the United States, representing a unique innovation in children's publishing and book design.
In addition to her pioneering work with shape books, Very worked as an educator. Her multi-faceted career as a teacher, writer, and artist allowed her to contribute uniquely to nineteenth-century American literature and educational illustration.
