Wace, who is sometimes referred to as Robert Wace, was a Norman poet of the medieval era. Born in Jersey around 1110, he was relocated to mainland Normandy during his childhood, growing up in the city of Caen.
Later in his life, Wace served as the Canon of Bayeux. His literary contributions include the Roman de Rou, a work in which he shared key details of his own upbringing and early life. He is known to have lived until at least 1174.
