William W. Walter was an American writer and metaphysical teacher who founded the New Thought movement known as Eschatology. Raised in the Catholic Church, Walter later aligned himself with The First Church of Christ, Scientist. However, in 1912, he chose to reject organized religion entirely in order to establish his own independent metaphysical system. Walter initially named his organization 'The Walter Method of Christian Science,' but during the 1920s, he began using the term 'Eschatology' as a trademark for his teachings. Although modern observers generally classify Eschatology as a new religious movement, Walter did not consider his work to be religious, a distinction that his followers continue to maintain. Following Walter's death in 1941, various groups dedicated to his teachings survived and remained active, particularly in the United States, with a notable presence in California, as well as in Mexico.
