Frank Dechant Wagner (1893–1966) was a highly decorated naval aviator and vice admiral in the United States Navy, recognized for his leadership during key Pacific campaigns of World War II. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Wagner built a distinguished military career centered on naval aviation, strategic command, and training.
During the early weeks of the Japanese invasion of the Philippines, Wagner distinguished himself while serving as the commander of Patrol Wing Ten. His leadership during these critical defensive operations earned him a promotion to general officer rank. He subsequently served as the commander of Aircraft, Seventh Fleet, playing a vital role in the liberation of the Philippines between 1944 and 1945.
Following the conclusion of World War II, Wagner continued his service in key administrative and training roles. He served as the chief of naval air training at the Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida, where he oversaw the preparation of future naval aviators. He concluded his long naval career as the commandant of the 17th Naval District, which was headquartered in Kodiak, Alaska.
