Kelly Rowland is an American singer who established her solo music career in the early 2000s. She released her debut solo studio album, Simply Deep, in 2002. Seeking to produce a more personal follow-up than her debut, Rowland contributed heavily to her sophomore project, writing nine tracks for the reworked record that would eventually be titled Ms. Kelly.
Released in June 2007 through Columbia Records, in collaboration with Music World Entertainment, Ms. Kelly marked a transition for Rowland further into urban music markets. The album featured production from notable collaborators such as Scott Storch, Polow da Don, Soulshock & Karlin, and Tank. Originally planned for a mid-2006 release under the title My Story, the delayed project achieved reasonable commercial success upon its debut, reaching number six on the US Billboard 200 and number two on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, selling 86,000 copies in its first week.
Following the positive reception of the album, Columbia Records released three deluxe reissues the following year, including Ms. Kelly: Diva Deluxe, Ms. Kelly: Deluxe Edition, and Ms. Kelly: Digital Deluxe. These reissues featured previously unreleased tracks and remixes, cementing the era as a significant milestone in Rowland's solo discography. Additionally, a special Walmart package included the bonus DVD BET Presents Kelly Rowland, highlighting her music videos and television performances.
