Alexander William Williamson (1824–1904) was a prominent English chemist. He is best known today for the Williamson ether synthesis, a landmark discovery in organic chemistry. Over the course of his career, Williamson was highly regarded within the scientific community, earning prestigious distinctions such as Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS), Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE), President of the Chemical Society (PCS), and Member of the Royal Irish Academy (MRIA).
