Alfred Jeyaratnam Wilson (1928–2000) was a distinguished Sri Lankan Tamil academic, historian, and author who specialized in political science. Over his decades-long career, he made significant contributions to the study of Sri Lankan politics, governance, and history, bridging the academic landscapes of South Asia and North America.
Wilson began his academic career in his native Sri Lanka, working as a lecturer in economics and political science at the University of Ceylon. His expertise and leadership in the field led to his appointment as the founding professor of political science at the University of Ceylon, a position he held from 1969 to 1972. Through his teaching and research during this period, he helped establish political science as a distinct academic discipline in the country.
He later relocated to Canada, where he continued his scholarly pursuits. Wilson joined the faculty at the University of New Brunswick, serving as a professor of political science. Throughout his career, his writings and historical analyses provided deep insights into the political structures and ethnic dynamics of Sri Lanka, establishing him as a respected authority on the region's post-independence political evolution.
