Henrietta Eliza Vaughan Stannard, who published her literary works under the male pseudonym John Strange Winter, was a British novelist active during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Born Henrietta Eliza Vaughan Palmer on July 13, 1856, she developed a career that extended beyond her own creative writing into significant advocacy and organizational leadership for her peers in the literary community.

Stannard played a pioneering role in establishing professional networks for writers, particularly women. In 1892, she served as the founding president of the Writers' Club. Her commitment to supporting women in the press and literature was further demonstrated when she took on the role of president of the Society of Women Journalists, serving from 1901 to 1903. Stannard passed away on December 13, 1911, leaving a legacy defined by both her fiction and her institutional support for female journalists and authors.
