Harry Charles Witwer, who wrote under the name H. C. Witwer, was an American short-story author active during the early twentieth century. Born in 1890, he developed a body of work that became highly sought after by the film industry, particularly for comedy adaptations.
Over the course of his career and shortly after, approximately sixty comedy film shorts were produced based on Witwer's stories. The majority of these cinematic adaptations were released from the mid-1920s through 1930. Witwer passed away in 1929, but his comedic legacy persisted on screen through the posthumous release of films based on his writing.
